A bit about their story from the bride:
I had gone down to Alabama for the weekend to spend time with a group of friends who were living down there, and my best friend who was visiting. Steve and I locked eyes the minute I walked in the house and continued to do so the whole night ( including when he jumped in the pool with his wallet, haha!). The next night we went to a smoky bar and talked in the back corner and I remember thinking so clearly “I think I might spend the rest of my life with this guy”.
After talking nearly every day, a few months later we began dating (first kiss was NYE on Broadway in Nashville). We did long distance between where I was living in Nashville and where he was in Alabama (a 6 hour drive each way) for about a year, making frequent trips. In January 2017 Steven got moved to Washington for the military, where he is a Blackhawk pilot. This was our first choice as it brought us close to Portland (where I grew up and my family lives).
I got a job as a nurse in Tacoma and started grad school, and together (knowing no one else here) we started a little life together! It’s grown and blossomed with such a wonderful community and we are so thankful for it. In April, 2018, Steven took me to Portland for a weekend getaway. The first night we stayed with my family, and the next day we headed out to a surprise location. We ended up at Ecola Beach, where I had taken Steven on his first trip to portland. On a rainy, blustery day he proposed on the beach. Immediately afterward we were greeted by my best friends and family who had been hiding! He had rented an airbnb in Cannon Beach, and we spent the rest of the weekend celebrating there with our loved ones.
Steven is my perfect compliment 🙂 In a lot of important ways we are similar, but in some ways he is completely opposite of me and different than what I would have expected. He brings so much balance, steadiness and joy to my life. I make him more fun and outgoing!
